Inspiring the
Next Generation of Astronomers

The Youth Astronomers Society of Seattle empowers teens to explore astronomy at every level, from community star parties to university-level research. We serve students who are passionate about science and curious about the unknown, giving them both a community and a platform. What makes us unique is that we treat teens not just as learners, but as scientists, publishing, presenting, and leading outreach across Seattle.

Our work strengthens community ties, opens pathways into STEM, and keeps the universe within reach for all.

The Youth Astronomers Society of Seattle (YASS) is a student-led division of the Seattle Astronomical Society (SAS). Our mission is to spark curiosity about space and amplify STEM opportunities for teens.

Session 01

Foundations of the Universe

Apr 13 · 9 AM–12 PM · Online

From your backyard to billions of light-years away. Learn how astronomers measure the cosmos, navigate the sky, and point a telescope at exactly the right spot.

  • Locate objects in the sky
  • Measure stars with astro images
  • Properties of galaxies
  • Python to compute
  • Telescopes
Session 02

Live Night Sky Observing

Apr 14–18 · Evening · In Person

Step outside and look up, for real. A real telescope, a real dark sky: nebulae, galaxies, and double stars you can see with your own eyes. Date is weather-dependent.

  • Learn how the sky moves
  • Operate a real telescope
  • Locate and take astro images
  • Live telescope operation

Turning Barriers Into Opportunities

At YASS, we turn curiosity into action — giving teens the chance to explore with telescopes, do real research, and connect with friends who love the stars just as much as they do.
